Growing the sport locally

One of our favourite local discs. A one-disc wonder. If you're starting your Disc golf journey, you can just buy a Ruru in Cosmic or Atomic and throw nothing else until you can hit 60 metres. Not good business advice for us, but great disc golf advice for you.

A deep disc that feels great in the hand. Stable enough to handle some decent speed and will hold any line you put in on. Practically no fade. A great classic style putter in RPMs rubbery Magma plastic too to help you bag those birdies.

PDGA Approved: Yes
Weights: 168-175g

The Ruru or (Morepork) is RPM’s dedicated Putter and named after a NZ native owl. The flight is slow and consistent, stable with a very small late fade. The Ruru has a small bead and a deep Rim and comes in 4 different plastic types and with many effects. It is PDGA approved to 174.3g

Model #: MR2
PDGA Approved: Yes
Diameter: 210mm

The Morepork, also called the Ruru, is a small brown owl found in New Zealand, Norfolk Island and formerly Lord Howe Island. The bird has almost 20 alternative common names, including mopoke and boobook—many of these names are onomatopoeic, as they emulate the bird’s distinctive two-pitched call. Three subspecies of the morepork are recognized, one of which is extinct and another that exists only as a hybrid population.

It has dark brown plumage with prominent pale spots, and golden-yellow eyes. It is generally nocturnal, though sometimes active at dawn and dusk, retiring to roost in secluded spots in the foliage of trees. The morepork feeds on insects and small vertebrates, hunting by pouncing on them from tree perches.

Strata

RPM’s base plastic
Strata is opaque, tacky and medium stiffness. This plastic will break in faster, similar to most base plastics.

Cosmic

Semi translucent premium plastic
It's a tough, grippy, partially see-through plastic that comes in a range of stiffness and with a variety of colours and effects. Will break in more slowly, so will maintain its original flight path for longer. We find this to be the most stable plastic from RPM.

Atomic

Tough opaque premium plastic
It's a tough, grippy, opaque plastic that comes in a range of stiffness and with a variety of colours and effects. Will break in more slowly, so will maintain its original flight path for longer. This will often be the easiest to plastic to spot from a distance.

Magma RPM's premium putting plastic
It's a rubbery, softer feeling plastic. Silky and grippy and comes in soft, medium and hard. This is RPM's grippiest plastic, particularly in the rain.
